In this role you will be assisting the Council’s Select Committees to deliver high-quality, outcome-focused scrutiny across a range of services.

You will work as part of a small team to provide policy and research support to a group of Select Committees, developing work programmes, identifying areas for investigation and lines of inquiry, carrying out research, writing reports and briefing papers and ensuring that committee members are kept up-to-date with local and national developments which impact on their work.

You will also provide procedural advice to Members and Officers, including guidance on the law and practice of meetings, and ensure that Members are aware of their rights and duties as Councillors.

We are looking for someone with strong written and oral communication skills who is able to understand and explain complex issues, has an analytical mind and practical research skills, has strong organisational and project management skills, and a forward-thinking and action-orientated approach to their work. The ideal candidate will also have a broad understanding of the law and practice of meetings and experience of managing or supporting committee meetings.
