Job Details

The Traffic and Transportation Service is responsible for a wide range of high profile services that affect the day to day lives of residents, the operation of businesses and the movement of people within and through the area. We have a number of opportunities in our Traffic, Road Safety and Parking Team which are critical if we are to deliver our ambitious programme, which includes: * Implementing 20 MPH zones around all schools * Increasing the number of cycle routes * Making our roads safer for all users, using a combination of engineering and education, training and publicity initiatives * Making travel on main traffic routes more reliable * Improving on-street parking and loading facilities.

For this role we are looking for an experienced traffic engineer to focus on the investigation and design of engineering schemes to encourage walking and cycling, to smooth traffic flow, and to help make our streets better places. In addition you will be working on parking schemes ranging from the implementation of restrictions at junctions to major CPZ schemes.
Along with at least an HNC in Civil Engineering or other relevant subject (or equivalent vocational experience) you must have excellent communication skills and a detailed understanding of the procedures, guidelines and legislation associated with the management and delivery of traffic schemes.
